FAQ

Pool Care & Troubleshooting

Simple guidance to help you maintain your pool and identify common issues.

Why does my pool bottom feel uneven or soft?

This is completely normal with a sand pool bottom. The sand is tamped and troweled during installation, and with thousands of pounds of water pressure, it may shift slightly when walked on.

Over time, as the pool is used, the sand will settle and compact, creating a firmer surface.

How do I check for leaks in my system?

Start by inspecting the filter, skimmer, and return line connections. Touch the hoses and fittings—if they feel wet, there may be a leak that needs attention.

How can I tell if my pool liner is leaking?

Walk around the outside of your pool before use and look for unusual wet or soggy areas.

  • A small amount of moisture (about 4-6 inches around the perimeter) after initial filling is normal due to condensation.
  • If one area remains consistently soaked, check inside the pool for a hole or seam issue.

Important:

  • Small holes can be patched
  • Seam splits cannot be repaired and require liner replacement

If you’re unsure, contact our office to schedule a service visit.

Can I inspect for leaks underwater myself?

Yes, you can use goggles to check underwater for visible holes.

Note: Do not touch or apply pressure to any damage along a seam. This can worsen the issue and may be unsafe. If a seam issue is found, call our office immediately – the liner will need to be replaced.

Is it normal to lose water daily?

Yes. Losing 1-2 inches of water per day during regular use is normal due to evaporation and splashing.

How do I know if water loss is from evaporation or a leak?

Use the Bucket Test:

  • Fill a bucket with water and place it near the pool in direct sunlight
  • Mark the water level inside the bucket
  • Mark your pool’s water level
  • Avoid using the pool during the test

If both levels drop equally, the cause is evaporation – not a leak.

Are liner patches covered under warranty?

Patching performed by anyone other than C&D Installers is not covered under warranty. Leak detection and repairs may include a service charge.

How do I fix small leaks in hoses or fittings?

  • Tighten skimmer screws (snug + ¼ turn – do not overtighten)
  • Tighten PVC fittings and hose clamps (snug, not overly tight)
  • Replace any cracked hoses or damaged fittings

If needed, contact your pool dealer for replacement parts.

Note:
This will not void your installation warranty. Always use Teflon tape or silicone when replacing fittings.

Why is there extra liner hanging outside the pool wall?

This is excess liner that was rolled and tucked under the top ledge for a clean appearance.

You can:

  • Carefully trim the excess and save it for future patches
  • Or dispose of it if not needed
